Premium for garages

Every listing is free and stays free, and customers ring your own number. Premium costs £12 a month plus VAT. You can cancel renewal at any time and your subscription will not renew any further. It adds an enquiry form to your profile: each enquiry arrives by email with the customer's job card, the job and the car, with no lead fee and no commission. It also adds your price list, 24 photos, your availability and a note to customers. Premium listings appear towards the top of your town's lists, town pages and service pages; when several garages in a town have Premium, they take turns at the top.

Both are examples. Brightwell Example Garage is an invented business, not a real one, and nobody listed on this site is shown as Premium here. On a real Premium profile, the details are the owner’s own.

What the badge means

Owner verified (paid check): within the last year the garage confirmed, on the phone number or email it already publishes, that it runs this listing and which of the details were current. The Owner verified badge is not part of Premium, and paying for Premium does not add it. A badge already on a listing stays until a year after the check that earned it, while Premium is paid, and then comes off. It carries the word paid wherever it appears, and is not a review, a rating, an inspection of the workshop or a recommendation. DVSA's authorisation to test is a separate fact, shown on every listing whether or not it has the badge.

The small print

Who you pay
mechanics.trade, 7 Princes St, Edinburgh. Stripe takes the payment; card details go to Stripe and never reach this site.
Prices
Premium is £12 a month plus VAT. You can cancel renewal at any time and your subscription will not renew any further. It is the only paid plan. VAT is charged on every payment at the standard rate of 20%, so Premium is £14.40 a month including VAT.
Renewal
Premium renews automatically every month until you cancel.
Cancelling
Any time, from Manage billing in your dashboard. It takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and the plan is not renewed after it. There are no refunds for part of a period except where the law requires one.
Buying as a business
Premium is sold to garages and motor repair businesses for use in the business, and you confirm that, and that you accept the terms, with a tick box before you pay.
One listing per plan
Premium covers one listing. If you run two stations, each with its own listing, each needs its own Premium for the paid tools to show on it.
When a plan ends
The badge comes off at the end of the paid period. Your enquiry form stops at once, and so do your price list, photos, note and availability, which are kept for 90 days in case you come back and are then deleted. Enquiries already received stay in your dashboard for 12 months. Your listing stays listed, no longer towards the top of your town's lists.

Questions

Where does a Premium listing appear?

Premium listings appear towards the top of your town's lists, town pages and service pages. When several garages in a town have Premium, they take turns at the top, so no particular place is promised. Below the Premium listings, garages are listed independents first, then by how far they are from the middle of the town; the badge sits beside your name, not in the order. Each Premium listing shows the words "Premium listing".

Do I need Premium to get enquiries?

Yes. The enquiry form shows on your profile only while you have Premium. Each enquiry is emailed to you, so you reply to the customer directly, and kept in your dashboard. Each one carries the customer's job card: the job, the make, model and year of the car, the fuel, the mileage, whether it can be driven to you or needs collecting, and when they need it. There is no lead fee and no commission on top of Premium: you keep the whole job. Without Premium, customers ring the number on your listing. We do not promise any number of enquiries.

How do I start?

Claim your listing on the claim page. If your email address is on your garage's own website (not a site other listings share, such as a chain's), and that website names the garage and shows the phone number on your listing, the claim goes through at once; otherwise it is checked against the number DVSA publishes for your station. Then sign in with a one-time link and choose Premium from your dashboard, or stay on the free claimed listing. If you choose Premium before you claim, the choice travels with your claim and your sign-in link, and the link opens your Premium checkout. First month half price: £6 plus VAT (£7.20 inc. VAT), then £12 a month plus VAT (£14.40 inc. VAT). You can cancel renewal at any time and your subscription will not renew any further. The half-price first month is applied automatically at checkout for first-time customers: there is no code to enter.

My details are wrong. Do I need to pay to put them right?

No. Corrections are free whether or not you claim the listing or pay for anything: use the listing form. Your name, address, phone number and test classes come from the DVSA register of MOT test stations, so if DVSA holds them wrongly, correct them with DVSA as well, or the next copy of the register will bring the old details back.

How does the price list work?

You enter your own prices, each one optional: your labour rate an hour, a diagnostic check, the MOT, an interim and a full service, brake pads and discs, a clutch, a timing belt kit, a battery, a tyre, exhaust and suspension work and an air conditioning re-gas, plus up to 20 extras of your own. Most are starting prices, because parts and labour depend on the car. The MOT price can be no higher than the most the law allows for a car, £54.85. You say whether your prices include VAT. A customer who has filled in a job card sees "your job here: from £X" on your profile, worked out from your own prices and labelled as yours, with a reminder to ask you for a written quote.

What does availability say?

Whatever you set: "Taking bookings", "Next free:" and a date, or "Fully booked for now". Change it when it stops being true. It never says when a car will be looked at, and nothing else on the site does either.

Which photos can I add?

Up to 24 photos of your workshop, your equipment, your team at work and work you did, with captions. Pair a before with its after and they show side by side. No stock images, no other firms' work, and no customer's car or readable number plate without the customer's agreement.

Can I cancel?

Yes, at any time, from Manage billing in your dashboard. The plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for and is not renewed. Your listing carries on as a free claimed listing, no longer towards the top of your town's lists.

When does the Owner verified badge come off?

When Premium ends, and a year after the check that earned it, because a badge that outlives its check would be a false claim.
