A mobile mechanic comes to you, at home or at work, and does the job on your drive or in the car park.
What mobile mechanic means
It suits servicing, brakes, batteries, diagnostics and anything that does not need a ramp or a workshop press. Jobs needing the car lifted high or held for days still belong in a garage.

- The car will not start and is not going anywhere on its own.
- You have no easy way to drop a car off and collect it.

What it costs, and what changes the price
Typically £50 to £90 per hour.
- Most charge by the hour plus parts, and the rate is often a little lower than a workshop because there are no premises to pay for.
- Some add a call-out fee for the first visit or for distance.
- Parking and access matter. A tight street can add time.
How long it takes
Similar to a garage for the same job, plus travel. Most will give you a window rather than an exact time.
Common questions
What can a mobile mechanic not do?
Anything needing a vehicle lift, a wheel balancer or an MOT bay. That includes MOT tests themselves, wheel alignment and most gearbox work.
Can they do an MOT at my house?
No. An MOT has to be done at premises DVSA has authorised and equipped for it. Some mobile mechanics will take the car to a test station for you.
Do they bring parts?
Usually yes, once they know the car and the job. Tell them the registration when you book so they arrive with the right ones.
