What it is
Cars first used from April 1980 need a working rear fog light. It must show the right red, come on when switched, and have a warning light on the dashboard telling you it is on.
What the tester can write down
| Wording on the certificate | Category | Recorded in 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| An obligatory rear fog lamp missing, or a front or rear fog lamp inoperative or in the case of a multiple light source more than 1/2 not functioning | Major | 166,313 |
What you can do about it
Because it is used so rarely, a failed rear fog bulb can go unnoticed for years. Switch it on in the driveway once in a while and check the dashboard tell-tale lights up too.
